Refrigerated and frozen cargo transportation
Refrigerated and frozen cargo transportation
1. When fruits and vegetables are transported, CO2 is produced due to respiration, which may cause poisoning or even rot of fruits and vegetables. Therefore, fresh air must be provided through ventilation to prevent the goods from rotting. Ventilation should be done at night.
2. The appropriate CO2 content % when transporting fruits and vegetables: pears 0 ~ 2, bananas 1.5, citrus 2 ~ 3, persimmons 5 ~ 10, apples 8 ~ 10.
3. When transporting refrigerated goods such as fruits and vegetables, ventilation should be performed 2 to 4 times within 24 hours.
4. For ventilation in reefer containers, there must be a gap between the cargo and the top of the container. If horizontal ventilation is adopted, a gap of at least 2.5 cm must be left. If vertical ventilation is adopted, a gap of at least 5 cm must be left.
5. When pre-cooling the reefer container, its temperature should be 2 ~ 3°C lower than the required temperature.
6. When transporting frozen meat, the temperature should be controlled between –18°~–20°C for long-distance transportation and –12°C for short-distance transportation; no ventilation is required.
7. When storing meat and fish in reefer containers, the temperature should be controlled between –15°~–22°C; the interval between continuous temperature measurements should be 4 to 6 hours.
8. The general temperature for quick-frozen transportation is no less than –20°C.
9. Frozen goods with temperatures below freezing point do not require ventilation during transportation.
Remarks:
1. The setting of temperature and ventilation volume is provided by the shipper to the shipping company and set by the container yard staff of the shipping company. The temperature and ventilation volume will be recorded from the beginning of container pre-cooling until the container arrives at the discharge port.
2. The selection of temperature and ventilation volume must be based on the professional judgment of the shipper (type of cargo transported, maturity...).
